Media Ethics

Image
Hello everyone,   Today I will be talking about Media Ethics and how ethics play a huge role in how media functions within society. It is said that Ethics is a broad topic and can touch on many topics such as mental health, social inclusion, representation, sensitivity, balance, truth, and transparency. A good place to start considering ethics is to explore the UN sustainable development goals. The following 17 goals set out a roadmap for developing a more ethical and equal global society. They are not directly related to digital media, but they will give you a good idea of some of the issues of inequality that can affect our perspective on ethics. However, in my research, I have found a few sources that talks about today’s topic of discussion.   One video I have watched called “The Medium is the message” by Folding Ideas where they talk about how we know very little about the medium and still to this day quite so radical. 51 years of after understanding media w...

Starting Out

Hello Everyone, Today I will be discussing the project that I am currently working on with my peers which is the topic of Identity, representation, and the media. I and my peers decided to discuss the following topics: the LGBTQ+ community, toxic masculinity, and feminism as well as racism and how these topics are represented in the media as well as their impact in media. In this, we split those topics for us to research information on and what topic I got is how the LGBTQ+ community is represented in the media and the impacts the LGBTQ+ community have in the media. As I have said I will be talking about how the LGBTQ+ community is represented in the media, as well as their impacts in media. As of right now, I have only found my finding on how the LGBTQ+ community is represented in media and from what I have found is that according to one website called Seat Up that statistics from the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) has brought some welcome news for the LGB...

Peer Review #1

Hello everyone,   Today I will be talking about referencing and citation, for me referencing is looking at another work and getting an idea out of it not necessarily copying it. As for citation, it is when you give the website credits by putting their article in research, essentially what these two thus is that they give the author credit and allow us to get more detail if we find a certain article interesting.   There is an article that piqued my interest as well as change my perspective on things. One of them was called seven ways to crush self-doubt by John Spencer. He said that “Self-doubt can crush confidence” (Seven ways to crush self-doubt by John Spencer- November 11, 2019) which is true as for example me, I doubt myself all the time “Do they like me? Did I do something wrong? Is it worth the risk?” all those questions and more linger in my head which can sometimes ruin my creative thinking as well as decision thinking as I tend to not take risk nor accept fail...

Production Process

Hello everyone in today’s blog I will be talking about production process and how you can organise effectively as you get started on group projects. I this blog I will be discussing the different stages of the production process and different activities that take place in each stage.  There are several different production models used, depending on what kind of media you are creating, however, most media production processes can be loosely divided into 3 stages.  These are pre-production, production, and post-production, the traditional production process.  In some industries, such as filmmaking, these stages are highly defined, but in other digital media environments, these three stages can often overlap a bit. In some media design processes, you’ll apply a model with four, five, or more stages, but generally, these can still be broadly mapped onto some part of the traditional production process. The video that I have used as a reference that can hopefully help understan...

Media Literacy

In today’s blog I will be talking about the impact of digital media and why it can be useful in many ways. As for why I’m talking about this is that I think it can helpful why we use digital platforms and media in our daily lives and a few resources can help explain why it has a great impact in our lives. The word “ literacy” in original terms is someone who could read and write as well as to connect with visual knowledge to rational brain processes. In the first site I visited for my research called Media Literacy Ireland, it is said that the main components that makes up digital literacy are the ability to do the following: Understand and critically evaluate broadcasts, digital and other media content and services, in order to make informed choices and the best manage media use; Access and use broadcast and digital media content and services in a safe and secure manner, to maximise risks; Create and participate via media, in a responsible, ethical and effective manner, in the creati...

Digital Media

In today’s blog I will be discussing why we study digital media and provide a proper introduction to the idea of digital literacy.  To which I have found a few videos in YouTube that will explain why digital literacy is extremely important.   The first video I watched was the TEDTALK with Doug Belshaw where he talks about the essential elements of digital literacy as well as the importance of digital literacy. He said that “It takes a lot of definition to decide what counts as being digitally illiterate or literate” I believe that’s what he meant; he also mentions about a quote from UNESCO taken from the 1950s saying “Literacy is a characteristic acquire by individual in varying degrees from just above more to an indeterminate upper level. Some others but it is really not possible to speak of illiterate and literate persons as two distinct categories.” To which this was true as before I did digital media, I had no clue that digital literacy existed and know how to defi...

Active Reading

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog, today  I will be talking about active reading and  critical reading techniques that we can use to study more   effectively with the help of some research articles that I have found.   In the first article ,  I  read  called  Critical Reading Techniques by The Open University . They said that  “ like many  students,   you might find that you are time- poor,  and you  will,   therefore, need to be speedy and efficient in your reading. This section will help you become an efficient reader and information processor ”  to which I totally agree with the statement as  I myself  is one of those students who t end to be clueless in most of my work and have no clue how to work aroun d it .  This  article will cover the following sections like how to read  efficiently, how to read  actively in an engag ing  way and critically process what you rea...

Study Skills

In today’s entry, I want to talk about the videos I have watched and how the information that I have learned can be used for my future reading.     My earlier experience with studying was not particularly good, let me tell you that I was merely lucky that I got on fine in high school. I would study at the last minute and or focus on one subject as I did not even know how to properly study and would try to find study tips on YouTube rather than study. That was until what I discovered in this research to which I will be separating into three separate paragraphs.     In my research, I came across a  YouTube  channel called Mike and Matty where Mike talks about the three best study tips with scientific evidence. In this, he will tell us how to study for exams, how to train your brain to learn effectively again with the help of science. He mentions that quizzing yourself, “ spacing  it out”...
